Beginning the year with Balance

I traveled to Ecuador in January and still carry a sense of awe.

Visiting the Galápagos Islands had been on my bucket list for years, and it did not

disappoint. Seeing wildlife up close—untouched by fear—was a quiet but powerful

contrast to life back in the U.S., where constant vigilance often makes safety feel

like something that must be defended.

Traveling through mainland Ecuador offered a very different, yet equally meaningful

experience. I had the opportunity to participate in two sacred traditions passed

down through generations: a fire ritual in a small indigenous community in

Guamote, and a traditional herb cleansing at a local market in Cuenca.

These rituals were not about explanation or proof. They were about connection—to

nature, to the body, and to something larger than ourselves.

Standing around the fire with my hand on my heart, listening to prayers offered to

Mother Earth, I felt deeply grounded. Fire was honored not as something to control,

but as something to respect—a living force that restores balance and clears what no

longer serves. There was no urgency, no productivity goal, no outcome to measure.

Just presence.

Later, during the herb cleansing, I was reminded how uncomfortable it can be to

surrender control and trust a process we don’t fully understand. It felt unfamiliar, a

bit awkward, even humorous at times—and yet strangely refreshing. Sometimes

clarity doesn’t come from logic, but from allowing ourselves to pause and reset.

Earlier in the trip, my husband and I visited the Equator. Standing there, I was

struck by the idea of life lived in balance—not pulled north or south, not constantly

adjusting, but steady and centered. Days begin and end at nearly the same time

year-round. There are only two seasons: wet and dry. Life follows a rhythm, not a

race.

It made me wonder:

What would it be like to live more in rhythm with ourselves?

What would it feel like to release what drains us and keep what truly matters?

What might change if we stopped pushing—and started aligning?

Being immersed in different environments and cultures often invites reflection and

fresh perspective. If you’re feeling out of alignment, overwhelmed by daily

demands, or simply longing for more balance, coaching can offer space to pause,

reflect deeply, and take intentional actions aligned with your values and deeper

desires.
